What's happening with Storm

First of all, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I had a wonderful time spending the holiday with my family and friends. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday.

Well, I started working on Taken By Storm yesterday and I've gotten a lot done. Storm is such a powerful character that he wouldn't let me stay away from the computer too long. He wants his story told and he wants it now.

I won't post anymore excerpt until I have a contract with a publisher (crossing my fingers that I'll have one in the near future). I know how much I adore Storm, but I've to make sure that other people love him as much as I do or maybe more.

As always, I'll keep you updated on my progess with my sexy hero and his heroine.

Take care and keep reading all those wonderful IR romances.

Storm excerpt part 2

A knock at her bedroom door stopped Syleena from finishing her make-up. She was expecting Courtni to help her pick out a dress for her date with Brian. Courtni told her she would come and help her after she put Jake to bed. She didn’t know why she even said yes to Brian, but it was too late to back out now. Plus after the almost kiss in the stables with Storm, she needed some time away from this house. He was too much in her face for comfort.

“Come in,” she yelled from the bathroom. She tossed her lipstick down on the counter and went into her bedroom to meet Courtni.

“What are you doing in my bedroom?” Syleena snapped taking a step back toward the bathroom.

She was taken back to see Storm standing in the middle of her bedroom. His dark hair was wet from his shower and his expensive cologne filled the bedroom. Black slacks molded his long legs and a crisp white shirt stretched across his hard muscular chest. She knew she was staring, but she couldn’t help it. Storm was one fine looking man.

* * * *

Storm took in the vision before him. Syleena’s hair was twisted up with only a small strand left out to fall gently on her smooth dark caramel cheek. A satin black robe was tied around her waist and her make-up was completed except for her lipstick. “Did you think I would let you leave with Brian before we finished what we started in the stables?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She whispered taking another step toward the bathroom.

He saw what Syleena’s was trying to do, but he wasn’t going to allow it. Closing the small gasp between their bodies with three quick steps, he wrapped his fingers around her small wrist and hauled her body to his. The scent of Apricot and Chamomile filled his senses.
Syleena tried to push him away with her free hand but she wasn’t strong enough.

“Stop struggling I would never hurt you, sweetheart.”

Hearing the endearment she stopped and looked up at him. “We can’t do this, Storm.”

“Do what?” he asked. His eyes dropped down to her mouth and he could almost taste her. “All I want is just one kiss before you leave for your date.” He whispered before capturing her mouth with his.

* * * *

Twisting in his arms and arching her body, Syleena sought to get free. She didn’t want to feel Strom’s warm mouth on hers. His lips were hard and searching and sent a jolt of awareness through her body. The tip of his tongue licked the side of her mouth and she swallowed down a moan.

“Stop playing around with me, Syleena.” Storm breathed against her lips. “Open that cute mouth of yours so I can taste you. I know you want it as much as I do.”

Her body screamed at her to do what Storm asked, but her mind was stronger for the moment. Storm really didn’t want her. He was only kissing her to prove a point that he could get her body to want his. She wouldn’t let him to that to her.

“No.” Syleena muttered tearing her mouth away. Taking a step back she wiped Storm’s kiss from her mouth with the tips of her fingers. “I don’t want you to kiss me not now not ever.”

Gray eyes grew two shades darker right before her eyes, “Don’t tempt me with a challenge like that Syleena. I’m not a man you should taunt.” Storm growled.

Squaring her shoulder, she tossed Storm a hard look of her own. “What makes you think I’m not telling you the truth?”
Syleena didn’t have time to reaction before Storm reached out and roughly jerked her back into his arms.

“Make no mistake of this Syleena. I known when a woman wants me and you sweetheart want me.” He planted another hard kiss to her mouth before moving away.

“Have a good time on your date tonight.” He opened the door and went out without looking back.

She brought her fingers to her swollen lips. “Storm, what are you trying to do to me?” She mumbled to the empty room. Securing the belt around her waist, she went back into the bathroom to ready for her date.

Taken by Storm excerpt

Taking a deep breath, she shook off the last of her nerves and walked the last few steps. The sight that caught her eyes made her gasp in the back of her throat. A coal black stallion with a white strip going down to its muzzle stood in the middle of the stall. His liquid brown eyes stared back at her like he was trying to decide if she was his friend or his enemy.

“Why aren’t you out toward the front with the other horses?” Syleena whispered. Slowly she moved closer to the magnificent animal and she talked softly so he wouldn’t be frightened of her.“Hello there, aren’t you something to look at? I bet you get all kinds of attention with your beautiful black coat.”

The horse raised his ears like he always understood what she was saying to him. Syleena bit her lip to keep coming laughing when he moved cautiously toward her voice. Only a few more inches and she would be able to touch him. “Come here, boy, will you let me touch you?” She moved her hand out slowly toward his muzzle. He moved to the edge of the door and stuck his head out at her.

“See, I knew you wanted some attention form me.” Leaning in closer to the amazing animal she whispered. “I don’t want the other horses to hear, but you’re the most striking one here.” The stallion shook his head at her like he understood every word coming out of her mouth.

“Do you know what you’re doing is really dangerous? What if he had tried to bite your hand?”

Syleena flinched at the sound of Storm’s usual growled behind her. She noticed even the stallion moved its head back when Storm’s voice echoed around them. She wiped her hands on her jeans, then spun around to look at Storm. “Why did you do that? I was having a good time talking to him and you scare him away?”

“Thunder is very dangerous. Most of the men here are scared to come within ten feet of that damn horse. Then I walk up on you and he’s practically eating out of your hand.”

“Maybe I’ve a better connection with him.”

“Really….? What would you call the connection-Beauty and the Beauty?"

Syleena tossed one last look at Thunder, then brushed past Storm. “I don’t have stand here and listen to you insult me.”

“Wait…. I didn’t mean it as an insult.” Storm yelled after her. “Stand still so I can apologize.”

She didn’t want to hear it, so she kept walking toward the front of the stable. She heard Storm’s footsteps gaining on hers, but she didn’t turn around. How much more of him could she really take?

“Damn it! Woman…will you slow down!” Storm hissed. His hand wrapped around her arm and jerked her back around to face him. “Will you stand still and let me apologize?”

She glanced down at Strom’s fingers attached to her wrist. She was surprised by his dark tanned. How did he get so dark if he spent all his time at the office? “Let go of my arm first.” Slowly his grip eased off her arm and he moved back.

“I’m sorry for what I said. I was joking, but you didn’t take it that away. How about I make it up to you with riding lessons?”

Her mind tingled with the possibilities of being alone on horseback in the woods with Storm. Stop it, girl! This man doesn’t want you. “When would you want to start the first lesson?”

“It’s almost dinner time so it’s too late to start now. How about later on in the week? I’ve to check my schedule at work first.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

“Do you think Brian will mind you spending so much of your free time with me?

She could barley control her eye roll this time. Here we go again.“No. Brian is very understanding and he won’t care. Actually, he’ll love I’m finding things to do while I’m here for the wedding.”

“Yeah…the wedding I still can’t believe Vicki’s son is your date.”

“Who’s your date for the wedding?”

“I don’t have one.”

“You’re kidding right?”

“No, I don’t have a date,” Storm replied.

“Why not? I’m pretty sure you could find one at the drop of a hat. So what is the hold up?”

“What if I told you the woman I wanted to take already had a date and I was jealous?”

“I guess you should have asked her before the other man did, but I can’t believe you would be jealous of another man.”

“Don’t you want to know who the woman is?”

Syleena stood frozen in front of Storm. She didn’t know what to say. A part of her wanted to know, but the deeper part of her didn’t. It was like of she found out it would change how she looked at him.

“Do you want to know?” Storm asked again moving closer to her.

She took a step back and shook her head. “No….I don’t think it’s any of my business.”

She didn’t fight when Storm wrapped his fingers around her upper arms and tugged her to his body. She could feel the heat from his body through the layers on clothes on their body. Syleena was so taken back that she didn’t know what to do when Storm’s lips brushed her ear.

“Syleena, live a little and ask me who she is?”

“I…I don’t want to….know who it is.”

Dark gray eyes flashed with sudden anger before Storm’s mouth started to lower toward hers. Syleena wanted to feel guilty about wanting this kiss, but she didn’t. Storm’s firm lips were an inch from hers when she heard.

“Syleena, are you in there,” Brian yelled from outside.

She wrestled her body from Storm’s tight grip and stumbled backwards. What in the hell was wrong with her? She couldn’t let Storm kiss her. Pressing her hand against her chest, she took several deep breaths.

“You better answer him before he comes in looking for you.”

She hurried away from the temptation of Storm for the safety of Brian. “Yes, I’m in here.”

“Good…I’ll come in there to you.”

“Don’t come to me I’ll come to you.” She rushed out the stables right into Brian.

“Brian, what are you doing here? “I thought you were helping your mom finish planning the wedding.”

Brian smiled. “I left early because I wanted to take you out to dinner.”

She observed him through lowered lashes. The crisp white shirt and dark slack did compliment his blond good looks. She would be an idiot to turn Brian down after what almost happened with Storm. “You look very nice, Brian.”

“Thanks, so I that a yes to dinner?

“Yes….Just let me go shower and change then I’ll be all yours.”

“Great, do you mind if I wait for you outside in the car? I’ve to make some business calls on my cellphone.”

“No, that will be fine,” Syleena said.

“Let me walk you back to the house.”

“Sure.” Syleena agreed.

Without turning around, she knew Storm watched them every step of the way back to the house. She could feel his eye drilling a hole into the back of her head.

Storm is still here!

Well, here I go again trying to get this blog up-dated. I've still been working on my sexy Storm for the past couple of weeks. He's a very hard character to write, because he fights me at every turn. When I want him to do one thing, of course he does a 180 on me.

Storm wants to get his way or else, but I love this hero too death. He's so head strong and a HUGE ALPHA male, but there's so much more to him than that.

I'm hoping to be finish with him around March or April. It all depends on the free time I've coming up in the next couple of weeks.

I haven't stop getting critiques for Loving True either. I want to get that sent off for the mass market probably late February after the publishers open back up from the holidays.

Well until next time...Keep writing and reading!

A Storm is blowing in......

Today has been a pretty good day for me. I got to work on my other mss without a lot of problems coming my way. I've been trying to work on "Storm" for a while now, but sometimes I don't have the extra time to sit and think about him. However today wasn't one of those days. It seemed like my words just flowed from my mind onto the computer screen.

However, I feel so BAD that I haven't focused more on Clinton Campbell my secondaray character from my first mss. "Loving True." He's Hayward older brother and a lot different than Hayward. I would almost call him a "good guy" but not quite yet.

He's is more laid back than Storm and Hayward. Yet, he does has his own faults that I can't go into right at this moment.

Back to Storm....

He wants to be loved so bad, but before he can give himself freely. He needs to get rid of all the baggage from his past. It will be a long time before he understand and comes to grip with this. I love Strom because he's constantly testing my writing abilities.

Well, until next time.... Keep writing and enjoying life!

Meeting Hayward

Well, I know that I was supposed to keep my blog more up-to-date, but I've been so busy with the holiday season coming up. I love Christmas time. Christmas is my favorite holiday! I still remember the enjoy of falling to sleep as a child hoping Santa would come and leave me a gift or two.

Okay, let me get to how the critique went of Loving True. I don't think it went all that bad. Most of the ladies at my critique group liked True and I loved that. I wanted True to be likeable and for the female readers to be able to relate to her emotions.

However, Hayward was a harder sell for them. Now, they liked him. But I think they wanted a little more emotional discovery from his side. So in about two weeks, I'm doing a hotseat as my beloved Hayward. I love how he is. He's a true alpha male from the top of his dark head down to his size 15 shoes.

I can't wait until the females in my critique group love him as much as I do. I know they will after they experience the world of Hayward.

Also while I'm waiting from them to finish critiquing my first novel. I'm working on another with another strong alpha male. He speaks to me just as much as Hayward did. I can't wait to see how his story unfolds.

By the way, I think this actor would make a perfect Hayward.

Trying to decide

I've a been thinking about submittiny my book to a book publisher for the last couple of days. But I'm a little nervous because of the previous rejection I've recieved. I've all the faint in the world that if my book gets published readers will far in love with it. But I don't know about the waiting to see if the publisher or agent wants to spend their time/money on it.

I know I'll probably send it off because if I don't my critique partner Michele will kill me if I don't. Speaking of her, I would like to Congrat her again for another book sale. Her book A Sorta FairyTale is going to be released through Ocean Mist. Didn't I say she was an amazing writer.

Today, she finally sent me more of Dark Knight. Like always it was a wonderful read, but she has this nasty habit of leaving me hanging with her books.

Well, I've been working on my two books pretty hard the last couple of days. "Taken By Storm." I'm on Chapter Three headed strong for Chapter Four. I took a break from "Slow Seduction" to write something on my blog.

So, I better get back to work. Take care until next time.

Works In Progress

First let me apologize for not updating my blog in such a long time. Work has been so CRAZY! I haven't had a free moment to do anything, but work on my novel.

Like I stated in my previous post I've been working on a couple of query letters for my book "Loving True." However right now, I'm working with a wonderful critique partner that's helping me out with my mistakes. Michele. I don't know what I would do without her.

I don't know how she does it with her own book coming out. But she has teased me with part of her story called "Dark Knight." This story is so GOOD! I'm waiting for more, but I don't know I'm going to get to read it. In addition, she tempted me with another story called "Someone to watch over me." This is just as good as "Dark Knight," but she doesn't have any more for me to read of this either.

I don't know what I'm going to do with the girl! I know she's busy, but come on she can't do me like that.

I want to thank her for taking the time to mention me in her blog. Sometimes when you're trying to break into the writing business, it hard and hearing Michele's encouraging words helped me out a lot. Thanks Michele!

I promise to take more time and update my blog more.

Sending out queries letter

Well. I've been working hard the last couple of days on another query letter to send to literary agents. Hopefully, this one will more attention to my book that the last one I mailed out.

I've a very good feeling that this one might just be the one to get my foot into the door. But if it doesn't I'll just keep trying and working hard until I hear the words that I want too.

I want to thank everyone who has taken time to answer my questions or post comments of their own. It helps out a lot to know that there are other people out there going through the same thing as me.

Maybe when I post here again I will have some good news.

Wait! I do have a quick question. Does anyone know of any publishers that will accept an interracial mss without an agent? I already tried the two that I know of.

Writing IR books

I feel as a writer who's trying to break out into the mainstream with my first IR novel (WM/BW). I've found it very hard to get someone(agents/publishers) to read my entire mss. A few agents have requested the first 40 or 50 pages, but I always get it back with the same notes other struggling writers get.

"Thank you so much for you time, but you're not quite what I'm looking for." "Or you've a good story but sorry I can't take you on at the moment.Good luck in finding a publisher."

I want someone to jump ahead of the line and say "Yes!" "I want to take a chance on your book and introduce you to the world of romance." But I don't see that happening in the near future.

My book doesn't have any baby mama drama or family who's against the hero and heroine dating outside their race. My mss is a wonderful love story between two characters that overcome the emotional demons to find their way to each other.

I don't want to come across as bitter or like I want this handed to me on a silver platter. The only thing I'm asking for is that the writing world stop looking for the same old receipe when it comes to an IR romacne and give some new authors a fair chance.

Here's my question for the day.

1) Do you really think that a new writer who follows the same of recipe for writing an IR romance will get a book deal quicker than one who go outside the box with the way the writing world is moving right now?

The world of an Interracial Romance Writer.

Well. I don't know how to start this so here goes nothing. I've wanted to write books from a very young age, but I never had the time or a critique partner to help me out. So I just left it along and started doing other things. However, two years ago the thought popped into my head again and I decided to give it a chance.

Now, I've finsihed one complete mss and working on the sequel. In addition, I joined a group with a bunch of wonderful people to help critique my writing. (I need all the help I can get.)
I haven't gotten any offers for it yet. But several agents and publisher have liked the characters and storyline. However the best compliment was I have *Talent*
But I'm having very hard time getting my IR romance published out there in the mainstream market especially without an agent.

Now on to the questions:

(1)Do you think it harder to get an IR book published when the main charcters invovle a white man with a black woman?

(2) Do you like seeing an IR couple (models) on the front of your book or would you rather have a title with cover art?

(3) Do you think more famour or well-established writers should try to write IR romances.

(4) Do you like it better when the hero and heroine have an instant attraction to get each(I don't mean have sex on the front date, not that there's any wrong with that.) But do you reading the build-up in the relationship before they tangle the sheets?

Thanks for your comments!
